Walk Stats – 10.1 miles, 3,288ft elevation gain, time: 3 hrs 14 minutes
Another hill walk with Robin, Cal, and this time we were joined by my wife Mhairi. We decided to take a wander up Ben Wyvis so Cal could summit his first Munro (a Scottish mountain with a height over 3,000 feet (914.4 m). Ben Wyvis is quite a straightforward Munro with a good path and some beautiful views, but like any hill, it can become a very dangerous place if the weather is is not in your favour. Fortunately for us the weather was tremendous, and we had a brilliant walk that went without a hitch. The sun was shining and the weather was sweet. We had a great walk up the hill, ran back down, cooled our feet in the rock pools below, and stopped at Tarvies cafe for the obligatory bacon and black pudding roll with large coffee. It was a warm day and ice cream would have probably been the choice for most people but we didn’t want to mess with tradition so we stuck with our hill summiting celebratory snack 🙂
Adventures with family and friends are so important to me now. Training hard alone is great for pushing yourself mentally and physically, but having adventures with others is what it’s all about. Experiencing things together and creating shared memories is a must. Unfortunately, these things don’t just happen, it takes time and effort to organise and execute any sort of group activity.
It does involve a fair bit of work, but it’s always worth the effort.
