Our Health & Fitness Journey
Making health and fitness changes can be difficult, most of the time we have to fight against the conditioning or programming that has established itself within our lives. This can mean having to adjust patterns of behaviour that have been developed over years or decades; which is no easy feat. There are definitely ways to make things easier but it still takes a bit of work. However, it may not be as difficult as you imagine it would be. With the right plan, the right attitude, and the right support in place, anything is possible.
If you are interested in receiving coaching on the Fundamentals of Fitness we can arrange a discovery call and see what it is you are looking for and see if we are the right fit for you. Following that, we would discuss the best format and approach for you, and then arrange your first coaching session.
During the coaching sessions, we would look at your current patterns of breathing, movement, hydration, nutrition, sleep, and purpose, and then make adjustments in each area, with the aim of improving your overall mental and physical fitness.
I use a coaching style that utilises motivational interviewing, it follows a structure based upon – explore, assess, plan, progress, and review. My role is to support you in your self-development. The objective is to improve your quality of life.
This type of coaching is very much person-centred, and the direction of the coaching will be determined by what you need, and what you can realistically accomplish at each stage.
We will look at where you currently are in your life, where you would like to be, and possible steps that join the two places. We will explore the reasons why you follow certain patterns of behaviour, and then work together to change any unhelpful ones and maximise the useful ones to form new helpful habits.
Sometimes when we are trying to change behaviour we need to analyse our current behaviours and examine the reasons why we are doing the things we are doing. Understanding our motivations can be really beneficial when it comes to changing our behaviours and self-development. It gives us the tools we require to break the unhelpful cycles we find ourselves in, and focus on building a healthy life that fulfils our needs. We know that simply telling someone to start or stop doing something doesn’t really work, we have to construct a system that will initiate sustainable change and support long-term progression.
With this style of coaching there is a fair bit of introspection required. At this stage, I would like to point out that I am not a counsellor, I am a certified personal trainer and sports therapist whose coaching style embraces a holistic approach that aims to enhance the mind and body together. I have worked in the field of mental health but I am not a medical professional. I use active listening and empathy to help you find the solutions that are right for you.
We are all capable of improving our mental and physical fitness, sometimes we just need the right support.
*Self-development is the process in which a person grows or changes and becomes more advanced through their own efforts. (Definition of self-development from the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary & Thesaurus © Cambridge University Press)
